For students learning English as a second language, spelling correctly is hard to master because for every spelling rule there are so many exceptions! Even native speakers have trouble writing words correctly!

If you are a beginner and don't know what I have written above, try this lesson from the BBC.

It will teach you basic expressions to talk about your nationality, where you are from, where you live and what you do.

Tips to improve your English grammar

As a teacher of English to mainly Portuguese students, I naturally come across grammar mistakes in written work every day. 
Now that I've been reading a lot on the Internet, I have seen recurring mistakes there, too. Here are a few:

• your/you're
• its/it's
• there/their/they're
• affect/effect

These are very common and probably due to the author being in a rush because the differences between them are quite easy to understand.

If you realise that you could be making these mistakes, I suggest you read 5 common mistakes that make you look dumb, which has good, clear explanations.

Basic Portuguese - Greetings

If you've ever tried to find free online Portuguese lessons, you'll know that there's quite a lot out there but it's not always easy to find high quality sites that offer the material you need.

Today I am going to give you the link to a great BBC Languages page where you can learn some basic Portuguese greetings.
